Lawn Fertilising & Weed Control Services

Balanced nutrition and smart weed control for year-round turf health.

Lawn Fertilising and Weed Control Services

A healthy lawn needs more than water. It needs a balanced diet and protection from invaders. In Perth’s nutrient-poor sandy soils, fertiliser leaches away quickly, leaving grass starving. Meanwhile, aggressive weeds like Winter Grass, Clover, and Bindii are always waiting for a gap to take over.

BTM provides custom turf nutrition and pest management programs. We don’t just use generic "weed and feed" hoses from the hardware store (which often burn lawns). We use commercial-grade granular fertilisers, liquid soil amendments and selective herbicides used by turf professionals.

Weed Control (Selective Spraying)

The best defence against weeds is a thick lawn, but when weeds get in, hand-pulling is often impossible. We offer selective herbicide application, which kills the weed without killing your lawn.

Winter Weeds: Winter Grass (Poa annua), Clover, Bindii, Capeweed, Soursob. (Best treated June – August).

Summer Weeds: Crabgrass, Mullumbimby Couch, Nutgrass.

Pre-Emergents: The smartest way to manage weeds. We apply a barrier to the soil that stops weed seeds from germinating in the first place.

Safety Note: We are ChemCert Accredited. We know exactly what rates to use to be safe for your family, pets and the environment.

Fertiliser Programs

Perth sands have low "Cation Exchange Capacity" (CEC), meaning they can't hold onto nutrients. If you dump cheap fertiliser on, it washes straight past the roots.

We use:

  • Slow Release Granulars: These feed the lawn steadily over 8–10 weeks, preventing the "growth surge and crash" cycle.

  • Liquid Fertilisers: Foliar feeds for instant green-up and colour.

  • Soil Amendments: Humic acids, kelp, and iron to improve soil health, not just leaf growth.

Lawn Pest Control

Lawn pests can quickly undo months of good maintenance, so targeted treatment is essential rather than just “hoping they go away.” In Perth, a few key insects cause most of the visible damage. Each behaves differently, which is why correct identification matters before any product goes on the lawn. Done properly, treatment not only stops the current outbreak but also helps protect new growth as the lawn recovers.

We treat common Perth lawn pests including Lawn Beetle / Black Beetle, whose larvae (white curl grubs) feed on the roots and leave irregular dead patches that lift up like loose carpet. Armyworm are fast‑moving caterpillars that can strip a lawn from green to brown in as little as 48 hours if they are not controlled promptly. Mounding ants also cause problems by pushing up soil, ruining levels, creating uneven areas underfoot and smothering the grass beneath their constant activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I have my lawn fertilised and treated for weeds each year?

Most Perth lawns benefit from 3–4 fertiliser applications per year, timed around the main growth periods of spring, early summer, late summer and, if needed, early autumn. Weed control is usually done 1–2 times a year, or as required, depending on how weedy the lawn is and what types of weeds are present.

How long after a weed control and fertilising treatment can kids and pets use the lawn again?

As a general rule, once the product has dried on the leaf and the lawn is no longer visibly wet, it is usually fine for kids and pets to go back on the area. If watering-in is required, we recommend staying off the lawn until it has been watered and allowed to dry again for extra peace of mind.

Will weed sprays harm my existing turf or nearby garden plants if you treat my lawn?

We use selective herbicides that are designed to target broadleaf weeds while leaving healthy lawn varieties untouched when applied correctly. Extra care is taken around garden beds and sensitive plants, and we can shield or avoid these areas where necessary to prevent off-target damage.
